With school holidays always just around the corner, it can be difficult to find enough activities your kids actually enjoy to keep them entertained – and hopefully find a little time for yourself! But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Our Brisbane Kids Hip Hop classes are ideal to keep the little ones busy while you can enjoy a stroll around town or just relax at a nearby café.

Why Hip Hop Classes? We’re glad you asked!

Here are 5 good reasons why we think our Fortitude Valley Hip Hop classes are the perfect holiday activity for kids and teens in Brisbane.

1. Kids’ Hip Hop Classes Are a Ton of Fun!

Kids LOVE our Hip Hop classes and always have a great time vibing out to the latest hits. Our Brisbane dance teachers are all incredibly passionate about teaching kids how to dance and working with children is one of our favourite things to do!

V-Hub has been involved in many dance productions here in Brisbane, including Creative Generations and many more.

2. Keep Your Kids Active

As parents, we all dread the increase in screen time during school holidays (just 1 more game, mum!). It’s easy for kids to get stuck on their phones and iPads for hours at a time. Break it up a little and take your kids out of the Metaverse and into the world of dance in a real-life Brisbane dance studio!

It’s a great opportunity for them to give their little eyes a much-needed rest, be active for a while and pick up some new dance moves!

3. Hip Hop Dance Classes Are Exciting and Full of Energy

Dance has always been a great way to get your body moving and to have fun. That is why many parents love to take their kids to Hip Hop dance classes. Hip Hop is full of energy and excitement and gives your kids the ability to express themselves in new ways. It’s perfect to have some fun with a group of other kids and get in some exercise at the same time!

4. Improve Your Kid’s Motor Skills and Coordination

Hip-hop is a great way to improve your child’s motor skills and coordination. Not only will they be able to move their bodies to the beat, but they’ll also learn how to use their hands and feet in different ways which are important in their development. Plus, the positive reinforcement of enjoying themselves with a group of like-minded kids will help keep them engaged.

5. Make Awesome New Friends

At V-Hub, we are all one big family. And with a whole bunch of kids in one class, it’s easy to find new friends and make lasting memories. Arts and crafts programs are great, but if you’re looking for more physical activity to really get your kids moving, check out V-Hub’s upcoming dance classes here.

And of course, if your kids enjoy dancing, our dance classes are available all year round. Not only during holidays!

So, you’ve decided to embark on a journey into the wonderful world of dance! Whether you’re a total beginner or have taken some dance classes before, you should know a few things before attending your first class at a new dance studio. Here are seven tips to help you start your dance journey on the right foot.

1. Wear the Right Gear

When you’re in class, it’s important to wear the right gear. Make sure to wear something comfy that you feel comfortable moving in. Your shoes should be enclosed. Sneakers or sports shoes are great. If you are planning to attend a Heels dance class, we suggest well-made heels with ankle support. We recommend VAMP Heels.

2. Bring a Friend

Dance classes are always more fun with friends! While it’s totally cool to come on your own, having a good friend with you may ease the nerves a little the first time round. The great thing about V-Hub is that your first class is free when you claim your free class pass here. So, share the link with some good friends and encourage them to come along.

3. Stay Hydrated

Most of our dance classes here in Fortitude Valley are fast-paced and will probably make you sweat a little! So, be sure to pack a water bottle to stay hydrated. You may also want to bring some easy snacks, like nuts or a muesli bar to keep your energy levels up.

4. Pace Yourself

When you’re new to dance classes, whether it’s Hip Hop, Jazz dance or something else, it’s important to pace yourself. If you try to do too much at once, you’ll likely struggle and may get discouraged. It’s your first class! So, take it easy and allow yourself to move forward one step at a time. Have some fun and move at a pace that feels right for you.

5. Keep an Open Mind

When you first come to dance classes, be flexible and keep an open mind. You may not be able to do everything you see others do, at first. That’s totally okay! We all had to start somewhere and Rome wasn’t built in a day. Try to go with the flow and experiment with the moves you learn to find what works best for you. Remember, it’s not a competition. You are here to have fun and make new friends!

6. Get Started at Home with some Online Tutorials

If you have never attended one of our Brisbane dance classes before, you might want to check out some of these online dance tutorials to try at home. Attending a dance class for the first time can be a little intimidating. We totally get it! Trying out a few moves before your first class (when nobody is watching) might help you get more comfortable moving. That way you know what to expect.

7. Don’t be a Stranger

At V-Hub Dance, we are incredibly passionate about our community and want you to feel right at home from your very first class. Don’t be shy! Come introduce yourself and get to know some of our members and dance teachers. We are all here to have fun, make new friends and grow together. Hip Hop has been one of the most popular forms of dance since the late 1970s. Originally created as an urban dance form in the Bronx, Hip Hop has only increased in popularity and spread all around the world. In recent years, quite a few dance schools in Brisbane started offering Hip Hop dance classes for dancers of all ages and abilities.

The Benefits of Taking Hip Hop Dance Classes

Hip Hop dance classes offer many benefits for both beginners and experienced dancers. For beginners, Hip Hop dance classes offer an introduction to the physical and rhythmic movements of the dance style. Experienced dancers can improve their skills and technique. No matter what stage you’re at, Hip Hop dance classes can help you develop discipline, coordination, strength, and most importantly, create amazing new friendships.

Misconceptions About Hip Hop Dance

Here are some common misconceptions about Hip Hop classes we would like to clear up for you.

1. Hip Hop is only for young people

Not at all! Hip Hop is a dance style that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. In fact, here at V-Hub in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, we’ve made it our mission to provide an inclusive environment for all and believe you’re never too old to start dancing or continue to keep your skills sharp.

2. Hip Hop classes are too difficult

Actually, most beginner Hip Hop classes are quite easy-going and fun, making it a great way to explore dancing. You’ll be able to learn the basics quickly and start dancing with a group of like-minded people immediately. Plus, as you improve your skills, you’ll be able to try out some more challenging moves!

3. You need to be athletic to take a Hip Hop class

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Although some basic movements in Hip Hop involve flexibility, most of the dance is performed without any contact with the floor. This makes it perfect for people of all fitness levels – even beginners who aren’t physically active yet can start learning right away and get into the rhythm!

4. You need to know how to dance before you take a Hip Hop class

Nonsense! There’s no need to know how to do any fancy footwork or complicated choreography – just start with some basic steps and you’re good to go! In fact, our beginner classes are designed so that even total beginners can join in and have a blast!

5. Taking a Hip Hop class means you’re going to become a Hip Hop dancer overnight

Most definitely not – learning how to dance is a gradual process that takes time and practice. However, taking regular Hip Hop classes will help you develop better technique faster than if you tried learning on your own. Plus, there’s always room for improvement – so don’t be afraid to push yourself further each time you take a class!

Whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced dancer, our Hip Hop dance classes in the heart of Fortitude Valley are a great way to improve your dancing skills in a zero-judgement environment where everyone is made to feel welcome. We can’t wait for you to join us at V-Hub Dance!
