Hello V-Hub family! Vanessa here, ready to break down some fundamental footwork that’s perfect for beginners and a great refresher for our intermediate dancers. This routine is a staple in my warm-ups and a fantastic way to get your body moving with confidence. Let’s dive into the steps that make up the foundation of so many dance styles.

The Two-Step: Your Dance Foundation

  1. Starting Position: Begin with standing comfortably.
  2. Movement: Step to your right – open with your right foot and bring the left to meet it, making it “open, close.”
  3. Direction: Start moving to the right first, then alternate to the left with the same “open, close” pattern.

Adding the Front Step

  1. Initiate Movement: After mastering the two-step, transition the movement forward.
  2. Forward Steps: Push forward onto your right leg, then bring the left up to meet it, stepping “forward, together.”
  3. Side View Clarity: From the side, it will look like “step together, step together,” moving to the front.

Incorporating the Back Groove

  1. Backward Movement: After moving forward, it’s time to take it back. Start with your right leg moving back, then bring it to the middle, and repeat with the left.
  2. Flow: The sequence from the side is “back, middle, back, middle,” creating a smooth backward motion.

Finishing with a Groove

  1. Groove Jump: Conclude your routine with energy by jumping out on the count of five and six, using your arms to add flair.
  2. Arm Movement: Scoop with your hands as you jump out, pushing down strongly as you bring your feet back together. The strength in your arms is key to making this movement pop.

Putting It All Together

Now, let’s combine these elements. Starting with the two-step to the right, then left, moving to the front step, transitioning to the back groove, and finishing with a dynamic groove jump. Remember, the energy in your movements, especially in the final groove, will elevate your performance.

Practice Makes Perfect

Try this combo with some music, feel the beat, and let your body move. Whether you’re at home or joining us in class, this sequence is a fantastic way to warm up and get into the groove of your dance session.

Footwork is the foundation of dance, and mastering these basics will set you up for success in any style you pursue. Keep practicing, stay confident, and most importantly, have fun with it. Can’t wait to see you bring these moves to life in our next class at V-Hub Dance!

Hey V-Hub fam! Vanessa here, bringing you a fresh tutorial straight from one of our dance classes for adults. I’ve roped in a few friends to make sure I’m not dancing solo, and together, we’re excited to break down some cool moves for you. So, grab your dance shoes, and let’s dive in with these step-by-step instructions.

1. Starting with the Right Leg

  • Movement: Move your right leg back twice to the counts of “one, two, three, four.”
  • Tip: Keep it smooth and controlled.

2. Adding Arms to the Mix

  • Arm Movement: Start by crossing your arms in front of you, then open them out – “cross, open, cross, open.”
  • Body Groove: Incorporate an ‘up groove’ by adding a slight bounce to your movement as you perform the arm sequence.

3. Combining Feet and Arms

  • Full Movement: With the right leg moving back first, add the arm movements to create a cohesive back and forth motion, “back, front, back, front.”

4. Switching to the Left Leg

  • Movement: Repeat the same move, but this time, lead with your left leg going back, “back, front, back, front.”

5. Bringing Both Sides Together

  • Keep your knees loose and hips back. Ensure your arms track your body closely to maintain tension and flow.

6. The Hopscotch Groove

  • Feet Movement: Start with your feet open, then jump them together, aiming to get some air time. Landing on one foot may ease the impact.
  • Arm Movement: After finishing the previous step, throw your arms up as your feet jump out, then bring them down as your feet come together.

7. Let’s Put it All Together

  • Sequence: Begin with the right leg moving back, switch to the left leg, and finish with the hopscotch groove.

That’s our little routine broken down for you! Big thanks to my crew for helping demonstrate. We’d love to see how you go with this combo, so don’t be shy – share your videos or feedback with us!

Remember, it’s all about having fun and feeling the groove. Catch you in the next class or online – keep dancing, everyone!
